‘The Humble Needle’ was an opportunity to navigate my own position amongst a lineage of seamstresses. Crafted exclusively from stainless steel needles, the often disregarded industrial material becomes fine through form. Due to my inability to sew I felt alienated in a world that I am inherently connected to. This collection deconstructs the needle against its intended purpose, subverting its visual language whilst honouring the silent labour it represents. As the first jeweller in my family, ‘The Humble Needle’ allows me to honour and connect to my family whilst simultaneously making space for my own creative direction.
