Having grown up in France, my only connection to my Jamaican heritage were my father’s stories, pictures, and some objects scattered around the house.
By using second-hand fabrics and family photos, I began stitching portraits that explore this intimate yet common tradition of passing down what we own, be it objects or cloth, and in doing so, passing down memory.
I create embroidered portraits, visual narrations, and compositions that investigate how we experience memory. I’m particularly drawn to the tension between nostalgia and the anxiety of time passing ; the impossible pursuit of capturing moments before they slip away.
