The Candlelight Altar is an emotional design which offers you a moment of meditation, as sacred spaces are becoming scarcer and are even targets in ongoing conflict. I was inspired by portable shrines which offered moments of prayer anywhere throughout history. I also wish to display the universal power of candlelight for emotional healing. 

Each panel features abstract and organic shapes which represent different energies within the body to create a meditative space. My altar is sustainable and repairs material narratives: using aluminium, which is endlessly recyclable, and waste burlap which has a history of conflict that I repurposed into a design for peace.

The Candlelight Altar transforms the simple, familiar acts of saying a prayer, making a wish or lighting a candle into a performance.
