Barbara Stelmachowska
In my project, I draw attention to the processual nature of ceramic material, understood as its ability to shape itself, to become, and not merely to reflect the creator's intentions.
Using self-sewn textile forms, I break away from the traditional division between the ceramic form and the material filling it. I place them on an equal position as co-creators of the created objects.
The moulds in which I cast porcelain objects can stretch, bend and change contour. I resign from total control: the perfect cast, smooth edges, precise contours, regularity. This approach highlights sensuality – texture, roughness, softness, refraction of light, shadow, porosity.
Uniqueness becomes an aesthetic and philosophical value.
