Jianqiang Xia
Jianqiang (Vincent) Xia is a ceramicist, architect, and interdisciplinary artist based in London. He graduated in Architecture from the Royal College of Art, London, where he developed an interest in the intersections of spatial practice, materiality, and artistic experimentation. Drawing on architectural thinking, his practice expands into ceramics as a medium to explore space, structure, and tactility. His work investigates the dialogue between form and void, structure and fragility, and discipline and chance. His works have been presented in the UK, Qatar, Japan, and China.
I believe the meaning of an object is not inherent, but shaped through human presence, care, and time. My practice explores regeneration, sustainability, and transformation, valuing all states of becoming—from emergence to decay. Working with clay, I allow the material to bend, collapse, and record its own process rather than imposing fixed forms. Many works originate from recycled or discarded clay, which I reassemble and layer to give renewed structure and life. Informed by my architectural background, my work engages ideas of space, boundary, and material memory. For me, ceramics are vessels of time, holding gestures, fractures, and renewal.
