Lengling Bai
Lengling Bai (b.1999, Chongqing, China) is a contemporary jewellery and materials artist based between London and China. She holds a BA in Jewellery Design from China University of Geosciences and is pursuing an MA in Design (Ceramics, Furniture, Jewellery) at Central Saint Martins, London. Her practice explores the relationship between the body, curves, and large-scale wearable pieces through sustainable materials and traditional craft. Her work has been collected by her undergraduate university, featured in the 2023 Beijing International Contemporary Jewellery Exhibition, and continues with her ongoing project Shimmer Ripple, inspired by sunlight ripples on water.
Shimmer Ripple is a collection of large-scale, body-conforming accessories inspired by the fleeting ripples of sunlight on water. Using sustainable materials like paper yarn and fine silver wire, I craft fluid, lightweight forms through hand-knitting techniques, creating flowing lines and subtle spatial layers. The pieces embrace the body’s curves, redefining jewellery as both adornment and a spatial extension of the wearer. This collection reflects my desire to reconnect people with the quiet elegance of nature in contrast to industrialized urban life. Each necklace, bracelet, and pair of earrings captures the organic harmony and dynamic light found in natural waterscapes, inviting wearers to experience movement, calmness, and a heightened awareness of materials and form.
