Magdalena Lysiak

Visual artist, designer, craftswoman, independent lecturer and researcher, PhD in Fine Arts, MA in Ceramic Art&Design. Focused on her concept of “Meaningful Glaze”, pushing its boundaries beyond aesthetics, towards deeper meaning. She works mainly with ash and natural glazes, investigating ontology of things, after their transformation from organic to inorganic form. Based in Warsaw, Poland

In my art practice I formed the concept, that almost everything around us can be transformed into ceramics and ceramic glaze and become “Meaningful Glaze” - matter as the autonomous part of the process, that tells the story of its own, of its past life, but in abstract shape, emancipated from its organic structure, colour or function, showing its true material identity. Through this visual ceramic narratives, encoded in chemical elements, I tell about simple emotions, relationships, memory and meaning. I observe and investigate processes of transformation from organic to inorganic, that brings some metaphysical context to my works.
