"JET Mirror" reimagines the mirror as a space of cultural memory and collective identity.

Handcrafted in clay with wire braids intertwined in the frame, the piece elevates Black and Afro-diasporic beauty practices from personal grooming to cultural adornment. The vivid red finish and intricate braided detailing celebrate craft, materiality, and expressive form. On its reverse, a collage of Jet magazine imagery serves as an archive of Black everyday life, resistance, and joy. By embedding these historical narratives into a familiar household object, the mirror disrupts the routine act of self-reflection, shifting from a simple tool for viewing oneself into a powerful symbol of who we are, where we come from, and what we choose to celebrate.
