Sitong Chen

Sitong Chen is a London-based artist and metalsmith, currently an artist-in-residence at Birmingham City University. She graduated from the Royal College of Art and uses jewellery as a poetic language to explore resilience, transformation, and the human–nature relationship.

My collection FLOW explores water’s many states—fluid, solid, mineralized, reflective—as metaphors for emotional transformation, adaptability, and resilience. Through techniques such as enameling, chasing, raising, and hollow-forming, I translate the rhythms and textures of water into wearable, sculptural forms. Inspired by natural systems like frozen waterfalls and travertine terraces, as well as visual research and documentaries like Planet Earth, I reflect on the deep connections between humans and the natural world. My process begins with hands-on experimentation and material sensitivity, allowing forms to emerge intuitively through making. From shimmering surfaces to roaring waves and morning dew, each piece captures a fleeting moment in water’s endless cycle. With FLOW, I use metal not only as a material, but as a language—inviting the wearer to sense, hold, and remember the power of nature in motion.
