THIS IS OINK

The Timbre collection began with a technical challenge: how to create a continuous 360° wavy joint using contrasting timbers.

From this exploration emerged a series of pieces that combine CNC-led joinery and traditional woodturning, balancing robotic machining with the tactility of handcraft.

Made in the THIS IS OINK workshop, the collection includes small pots, medium dishes and a large bowl. Each piece is entirely unique, crafted through a process we’ve developed to reveal the hidden joinery within each form. The process begins on the CNC router, where the joint is meticulously carved before two halves are glued together. This ‘blank’ is then turned on the lathe, gradually exposing the concealed structure as a flowing, contrasting pattern.

Subtle variations in the joint design and natural irregularities introduced through hand-turning give each piece its own character, inviting audiences to consider the invisible expertise embedded within.
