Yu-Ching Chen
WAVE is a sculptural furniture collection inspired by my upbringing on the island of Taiwan, where the ocean’s presence shaped my sense of movement and connection.
Its flowing lattice structure mirrors the rhythm of waves, symbolising continuity and transformation—just as the sea carries echoes of history, my work captures intangible emotions through design.
Each piece is meticulously handcrafted, with steel wires individually bent, welded, and layered to create a seamless organic flow. The structure balances strength and openness, allowing the surrounding environment to merge with the piece. This interplay of open lines and negative space evokes a sense of presence and belonging, transforming the work into more than just a functional object.
By translating familiar natural rhythms into enduring designs, WAVE embodies the essence of memory and place. It reflects the idea that furniture can be more than a utilitarian object—it can be a vessel for stories, emotions, and connections that evolve over time.
